Bridge Authority a “Patriotic Employer”
Stars & Stripes to Fly for Flag Day

Highland, NY – “For contributing to National Security and Protecting Liberty and Freedom”, the NYS Bridge Authority was recently citied as a “Patriotic Employer”.

“We are honored by this citation”, Authority Chairman James P. Sproat said, “and proud to have employees who do their part to serve our nation.”

The citation, from the National Department of Defense and the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, commended the Bridge Authority for “Supporting Employee Participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force”.

The Bridge Authority has several employees in the National Guard, one of whom was recently deployed to Iraq.

The Bridge Authority will also raise the large American Flags on the towers of the Mid-Hudson Bridge and the Bear Mountain Bridge for Flag Day, June 14.

The Flags, 20 feet wide by 30 feet tall, are raised for several National Holidays but are particularly noteworthy for Flag Day.  The two bridges are the only ones in the Bridge Authority system that have towers and can accommodate flags of this size.
